Our new display features drawings, prints, studio ceramics, paintings and sculpture by Modern British masters and represented artists.
We are delighted to be presenting a selection of over thirty works by studio ceramicist John Ward (1938-2023). These fantastic pieces span over five decades of Ward's career. Displayed in groups around the gallery, they offer a wonderful opportunity to experience his work in depth.
Also being shown for the first time at the gallery are a group of beautiful, bright-coloured screenprints by William Turnbull (1922-2012) from his newly unearthed series A Garden of Caresses, 1970.
There are three still life paintings by Diarmuid Kelley which anticpate his forthcoming solo exhibition which opens to the public on 28 March. Over the grand staircase we are also showing a stunning large-scale portrait of one of Kelley's favourite models, Anya, dating from 2010. Tarka Kings' new solo exhibition will open at the gallery this autumn and she is represented by a selection of new and archive works. There is a brand new diptych, which comes straight from the studio of Tess Jaray, alongside a wonderful painting from the 1980s, which was shown at the Serpentine Gallery in 1988.
Also on display are works by Hurvin Anderson, Frank Auerbach, Edward Burra, Michael Craig-Martin, Lucian Freud, David Hockney, Jennifer Lee, Lucie Rie, Bridget Riley and William Turnbull.
